I'd like to just reiterate that the tentative release window displayed on the presentation at the quarterly meeting was an estimate. There is no official release date. An official release date will come from the PR office through a press release, and it will be on the official website.

Development on GW2 is continuing onward and upward. I know that we have some of the most passionate fans around, and we're immensely grateful to you for continuing to play. I know that not everyone will agree with the strategy in place in terms of GW2 information. All we can really do is ask for your patience, and assure you that we're working really hard to deliver an awesome, high quality game.

I'm grateful for a rough time estimate finally, but pushing it back another 1-2 years, well, thats a shame.
And she also publicly apologized for the bad information

The masses do not generate additional revenue and, while it gets said again and again, apparently it needs repeating: there is more than enough content in the existing game to justify the cost. While this was true even if you purchased them at full price, this is particularly true now that new buyers can get all three full games for $50 or less via the new Trilogy edition. If you can make an argument that a new player won't get $50 worth of good playing the existing content then you either have never played any other games or should seek psychiatric help. This game only makes money through new sales, ergo, Anet's interest is in moving copies of the Trilogy edition for the next year and, ideally, let the grumpy whiner player base go somewhere else so they are not cutting into their profits. Anet's only goal with the existing customer base is to leave them feeling they got their money's worth so they will come back for GW2, nothing more. If the little bits of additional content, e.g. the EoTN Wintersday stuff this year, aren't rocking your world, go do something else.

It's not nearly as complicated as people make it out to be: if you have a game that has no subscription fee, the designers' interest is NOT to keep you playing 24/7, 365 days a year. Their goal will never be more than leaving you happy enough to buy a new expansion or sequel over or in addition to the competition. It's not inconceivable that many of the changes introduced the past year that anger so many old timers because they make things arguably easier are there to speed up the "get done and get out" for people still looking to hit GWAMM or whatever - "Psst, here's a bone to make the game more accessible to the new players we want to buy the game and turn their friends onto and, by the way, it will let you finish your legendary vanquisher title that much faster so you can GTFO and stop killing our profit margins"
Im not asking for more free stuff..

..the guys at ANet should think about mini-expansions, like the Bonus Mission Pack. Just a bit more of lore, quests, and shiy stuff. Id gladly pay for such things..why not more Divine Realms? (I mean..like UW, but themed with other gods..)

They could even remove some of the blur of the continent adding some villages, a few missions/quests. Not only content for the pros like previous mentioned, but things to the casuals like me..

This should inject some cash on their pockets and keep us fed..

I'm still with Feb 29.....(yes there is one I believe, in 2012?)

but still really dont care as I have no plans to buy it, so it means I have 3 more years to play gw before they turn off the servers.

so its good news to me.

That's pretty much all there is the say. Honestly there is no need to rant any longer. I don't quite see how some people are complaining that they already wont buy gw2 because of this, but whatever.

Its refreshing to see anet posting on this t/y Regina. Anyway yea I hope u answere your dedicated comunities cries for content. I'd love to play GW for the rest of my mmo playing career dont get me wrong, but I'm gonna need something else in the game something fresh and new. Also FYI man they r not turning off the GW servers when GW2 comes out they already said this. Adding to what I said b4 honestly at this point I would pay for the new content I mean common the melandru statue is just begging for a reason to /kneel infront of seriously. Make a new expansion, I'll pay for another one of those. I mean I dont even care if you use remodeled versions of all the armors again lol. I want awsome new weapons to farm for and new dungeons to pawn with SF haha. But seriously what happened to the aztech idea that would have been awsome.

This. Coupled with Regina's statement about 2010/11 being tentative, I doubt they would give an estimation that might be moved forward. Therefore, I suspect 2010/11 we get NEWS that GW2 will be released in 2012.

It would be smart that 2010/11 is given as a later timeframe on purpose, so they can come back Q4 or beginning 2010 and go GUESS WHAT?! But I doubt they would have that kind of foresight.

There seems to be this delusion that if they struggle to retain the hardcore GWAMM vets or GW1 fanbase GW2 will fail.

Get real.

Better late then early in some cases. You guys saw how unpolished AoC and Warhammer were, that's because they were forced out of the door before they were ready. I'd rather have to wait a while longer than deal with a game that's not even ready.

I do agree with what some of you already said in regards to add new content. GW hasn't had a major change since EOTN, bearing in mind that MOX can be done in 2 hours and the storybooks added were too late for an adition in my case, and that was around 2007. Now if the game has been pushed for 2010 2011 how will the game attract new players and most importantly keep the old ones. IMHO that can be done by adding new content every now and again like stated above.
The bonus mission pack was a nice addition but lacked repeatability. I think we could all do with some permanent aditions to all those unexplored regions, maybe an outpost here a dungeon there nothing major but added over time.
I do have hopes from this LIVE team that they will provide something interesting every 4 months but i also do hope that there will be new additions, quests, heroes, locations to unlock not only title balancing and constant skill nerfing [which I respect btw, that also needs to be done].
Anyhow, we shall wait and see what ANET has in store for us.

Seriously, how long do you think it will take us veteran players to churn through ANY new content. Let's say the Live team releases a new God's Realm, every 4 months (being optimistic here). This including new quests, armor, weapons, creatures, reskinnes or not. In two weeks, the top-PvE guilds have cleared those areas, gimmick builds will be made, and in two months those areas will have lost all their glory, and have degenerated to the farming areas like FoW and UW are nowadays. Only to be entered to farm Eternal Leaves for Melandru's armor....

After that, people will start asking for more content, because they've exhausted the previous already. You said it yourself: The MOX quest can be completed in 2 hours, but I seriously doubt the dev time put into it is any less than 2 weeks.

Anet simply hasn't got the manpower anymore to keep GW1 refreshing for the people who already have completed 95% of the game. Just look at upcoming April's update. It'll take Linsey and co. the better part of 6 months to launch it, and it'll probably only encompass a new way to store our armor/minipets and a new setup for the HoM. Maybe something more, but definately no new content as massive as a God's realm, or other new Elite Area. Don't get me wrong. I appreciate all the time they are still spending with GW1, but people need to release that after you've 'completed' this game, you will have to set your own goals or quit for some time, because Anet isn't going to give you the new content you are looking for.

That makes me wonder, how long will it take for us to clear GW2, 6-12 months? So my next question is: Any news on GW3?

I can't believe I'm reading this thread...

Not that I have anything against GW2 since I'm excited to see how many new aspects Anet will introduce to the series. It puzzles me to think that this [GW1] game will live 'till 2010, 2011, or whenever... It's waaay past its golden days.
